Met Monday

It's Metamorphosis Monday over at Susan's. Lots of cute ideas and neat creativity by a lot of women.

http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/

I haven't done a metamorphosis post in 3 months, and I can tell, because I didn't do any "before pics" for what I am sharing today. :-(

But it's a fun-you can do this- way of changing up things in your own house by just moving things around, using some paint, and a little imagination or repurposing. ... and definitely....ALWAYS thinking Thrifty!

Below you will find a "hutch" that was sitting in my Goodwill several months back. It was raw wood, no finish. Price was $12.00. I knew it was a deal. It's not cheap wood. (heavy) The carving and the arch made it very appealing to me.

The hutch is sitting on top of a longer hall or sofa table I have had for a while in my dining room.

I found it at Salvation Army. I noticed the bottom shelf was missing (near the floor) and pointed it out, so they took 50% off the price immediately. (they hadn't noticed) It's a beautiful cherry color.

My met post is about combining these two. I painted the hutch and the legs/skirt of the table white. Even the little gold embellishments on the table corners. The lower shelf I had planned on adding on (hubby's woodshop skills)...I decided to leave off and make it a cubby/cave area for the doggies which you can tell, they appreciate. :-)

This model today is Kobe. Honestly I think he's trying to think hard enough to make that rooster REAL so that he can chase it. (rug, by the way, I posted on Thrifty Thursday is an 8X10 find at Salvation Army store for $20. - perfect condition!)

Below are a few pics of the embellishments - the feathering of the new "metamorphosis" piece in our NEST. :-)
Love this angel from Goodwill. The wreath behind her was covered with pink and purple flowers. Pulled them all off to just make a simple, natural wreath on the wall.

And the three shelves. I have to reveal this. About 98% of what is here was from thrift stores. No Kidding. (courtesy of Goodwill, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity Restore, and a little thrift shop near me.)

Wish I had taken a before shot. Thanks for visiting My Met Monday post. Don't forget to click on Susan's link above, and go see more RE-DO's and Makeovers. Maybe it will inspire you with a vision of something you can change with a little pocket change, paint, and elbow grease! :-)

Have fun.

Home for a day

Remember this show? I was a loyal watcher. I think I may have seen every episode ever made. Little did I know that one day I would have a son in the Marines.
How Gomer Pyle ever made it is beyond me. TV land...non-reality. :-)
Sargeant Carter was pretty real. His continuous barking "in your face" and repeated disciplines for Pyle were reality in the Marines.

But...I digress. I had my wonderful Marine home for oh so brief a stay and had to return him back to LeJeune yesterday. Lots of driving over 3 days, but well worth it. After not being able to talk to him for so long while he was in Arizona, we were itching to see him. He will be back for Thanksgiving, and we are looking forward to it!

Grabbed a photo of him with his brothers (quick!) before we took off yesterday.
My Three Sons...ahh...another favorite from Retro TV land.. but that's another post.
Love my boys and my one girl to pieces. They are TREASURES. Thanking God today for such wonderful blessings.

Hop on over to Leigh's @:

I posted about this AWESOME find (can you tell I got excited about this one???!) for Show and Tell Friday last week. Found it at Salvation Army...marked down. $20.00!!!!!! Brought it home, cleaned it up. It's in the dining room. Here's the pics I have when it was drying out.

Remember this find from last thrifty Thursday post?

Here's where they ended up....

Birdcage - Goodwill

Cute basket - Little thrift store down the road

This was in my White Wednesday post, but included it today, because there were 2 of these marked $1.00 each at the little thrift shop. Love the bunnies.

Thanks for visiting! :-)

Letting Go....

Good bye to Rastus...

This is a poem I wrote back in 2001. I dug it up today.

Little white cat

Where did you come from?

Left all alone

with nary a home...

Now you're before me!

Nipping at whatever you see.

Tugging at the heart of a little boy

Begging and purring without being coy.

So home you come, with us to stay

Filling our hearts with laughter each day.

Such a curious unassuming fellow

Friends with all, black, brown, or yellow.

Little Rassy, such a loving clown,

Ne'er wants to earn our frown.

Happiest when he feels our love

Little white cat made by God above.

Today, we had to say Goodbye to Rastus. He was in his 13th year. He was very sick and was in kidney failure...we found out. Bless his heart.

It is hard to let go of the things that become so intwined in the fabric of our life story quilt.

We seldom appreciate all that they mean when they are here, and realize how much love they give simply by hanging around us through our good days and our bad days. So it is with our pets.

We have lost three of our pets in the last year and a half. This post is in memory of all that they gave of themselves in the days of our family's history.

Rastus....Rassy. His name was "Erastus" - chosen because it means Loveable.

Good-bye Rastus. Thanking God for all of the animals He blessed human beings with the privilege of caring for.

White Wednesdays

Joining Kathleen again over at Faded Charm for White Wednesdays. Hop over and see some more inspiring and fun whites!

Isn't white lovely against dark wood?

White fur or a white tee ...looks great on just two of my favorite things in life.
Woobie and Justin, my Marine. Returning to NC after weeks of training and no communication in Arizona!! OOO-RAH! Outstanding!

And in closing for this White Wednesday, a preview of what we all know is coming soon! Brrrr....
