Memorial Day Weekend 2010

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all of you passing through.
May you have a wonderful time of rest and recreation with family or friends...

My front door view - Memorial Day weekend 2010

May we all remember as we smile and have fun that we still live in the greatest nation in the world. All of the pleasures and freedoms we have to do what we wish are because there is no one over us to oppress those pleasures and rights that are ours simply by living in a country where the people can have a voice...a say.

God bless the ones who are WILLING to set aside - to sacrifice - for a time in their young lives - all of those pleasures and freedoms - and GO ....to another land - to take out...to remove from power...the very ones who would like to come and oppress our people if given the chance.

God bless our military ...God bless America.
We are still one nation...under God....THANK GOD. May He never remove His Hand that overshadows our nation and blesses it and protects it. Pray....America....Pray...

Old Glory Patriotism brought to you courtesy of the Woodberry Canine Marine Corp supporter Devil Dawgs... both past and present ones....

Have a great weekend everybody... God's best blessings to you...

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

RAH! Stay Strong my honorable Justin.. God protect you!

White Wednesdays

“Home is the most popular, and will be the most enduring of all earthly establishments.” Channing Pollock

Since I got a couple of things done last weekend, I thought I'd go ahead and post - "journal"... here about them, so that my blogpost will be close to the completions, just for the record, when I look back one day. :-)

Joining up on a party post with Kathleen over at her White Wednesday regulars...
Love to see all the bloggers over there. Here's the link, if anybody wants to go on over and visit her at Faded Charm:
http://fadedcharmcottage.blogspot.com/

Here's one thing that got tackled... Remember this Craig's List treasure in a post back around the first of March???

Well, I finally got it moved in! It is just leaning...not attached. May stay that way for a while. There's no fireplace so I might would take it with me if we ever move. It came out of an old house that was demolished in a historical section of Charlotte. For now, here she rests... A place to hang stockings this Christmas away from the REAL fires and sparks! woot!

I added the decorative embellishment in the center. A brass find at the thrift shop last Fall, Splatter painted it white and hung it. Still thinking about what to do in the opening. That will take a while and a bit of pondering. For now a table will sit there.

This chandy was brass. I took it down and with Kurt helping to hold it, finally got it spray painted Heirloom White. (been meaning to do this for quite a while.) I added some crystals and beads and glitter berries at the top. It now has more of a cottagey feel to it which I like. (not so formal)

This lovely little white roses and hydrangea resin wreath was at the thrift store and I loved it as soon as I laid eyes on it. And for .99 I decided it was a good deal.

And this little baby doll is my Rob Roy posing for White Wednesday. He is really Justin's "Woobie". Justin gave Woobie a Marine name after he went to LeJeune... "Lone-Wolf" - This pup misses his Marine.... We tell him constantly that Justin will be back soon to visit on weekends...!!

Thanks for popping in today to visit. Bloggy friends are wonderful and encouraging.

Still waiting........

Have a great Wednesday! Hugs to all.
**Going with my mom and dad to talk to her Cancer doctor and Hospice nurse about her MRI she had done yesterday. Thanks for praying for all of us. Blessings to you all!

Tuesday's ounce of cheer

Do small things make you smile? Can you glance at a Favorite Thing in your daily routine and have a little smile erupt inside or outside? What cheers you?

Thought For the Day.. from Proverbs 31:25-27 on a godly woman:

"She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.
When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.
She carefully watches everything in her household
and suffers nothing from laziness."

Thanks to all who passed through today. God's best blessings to you...thanks for your partnering with us to pray for our military men and women sacrificing on our behalf every day.

Monday Musings...

This week has flown by.

Still no news from Justin. Our hearts just yearn to receive letters and to hear his voice, but we will hang in there. No news is good news... as they say. It will happen....

My mom had a good weekend. My sister and my brother were able to be here yesterday and Mom's pastor and his wife came over and we sang some of her favorite hymns. Then they served communion for her, because she has been wanting to do that for soooo long since she has not been able to go to church anymore. It made her day...

I have not had a lot of down time, but I still try to do what is a release for me and fluff my nest and look for thrift finds when I am out and about and can stop and look for fun.

Thought I would share a find from Craig's List. Where I had the "Industrial Steel" rack in my kitchen for a catch-all, (no mud room) I now have a Baker's Rack. Saw this one in black on Craig's List a couple of weeks back, and snagged it.- great deal, and got two drawers in the exchange.
I also had changed out the round table for a narrower farm table and windsor chairs. Now there is more space in the corner and more seating. rah. The old round pedestal table is now in the family room for projects and puzzle-working.

And this .99 whimisical Rooster Red alarm clock at GW was just a no brainer...I had to get it for the Rack. Hoping to have chickens and maybe a rooster again one day!

Finally finished up some other things I have had hanging over my head for a while.
I will journal about them in other posts.

I thank you all for your thoughts and comments and prayers lifted up for us in this little corner of the world. Especially about my mom, and most definitely about our Justin. We will do as he instructed us, and keep our heads up while he keeps his down.

May God bless you all and keep you as you journey through this coming week, all that will come your way, all that you face, and prayers that you will adapt and overcome. ..another Marine term..

Bloggy sisters ....they are a good thing in this life. :-) Hugs to all who visit.

This thing called....Blogging

I began a journey back at the end of February 2009, when I decided that I wanted to write down some things as I entered a new season. Same journey...just a new path being cleared ahead of me as I watched my first treasure leave home. When Justin spread his wings and headed down to Parris Island...all alone, it was oh so difficult.

I was entering a new walk as a mom, and as a woman nearing 50 years old. Life was marching on, and I was having to move with it. Let's face it, I was entering midlife.
Yes, just like Barbie. ***(and here is the REAL Barbie, ladies...) Yes she turned 50 last year, and here is the one who faced life with gusto and guts. She aged gracefully, and that is exactly what I want to do!

I wanted to try something different.... Express myself and write down my experiences and all that life was bringing my way, how it was changing me and deepening my relationship and trust in God and pulling my family in ....closer. I wanted to become a little more transparent. I am a very private person, and felt that to be almost a fault.

And so, I entered the blogging world. I even set my blog up myself and had an adventure seeing how far I could get without getting my tech-savvy daughter to help me. I did pretty good! She was proud of me.

The blogosphere is made up of all blogs and their interconnections. The term implies that blogs exist together as a connected community, or as a social network in which everyday people can publish their opinions.

It has been a journey in itself as I look back now and see how my blog has evolved, changed, transformed, and grown. Oh my ...what I didn't know was the friendships I would develop through this modern day communication system.

I have met so many women who like me have joined this community to write and share and encourage and be encouraged. What a thrill. I am writing this little blogpost today just to sound off, to give a cheer, to say OOO-RAH for all of my beautiful blog sisters out there who share common ground with me.

The more we read about other women's walks through their own personal journeys, the more we realize that we are all the same. Different circumstances, yet the same challenges through trials and storms, sadness and indignations...the same joys through celebrations and special moments, adventures and laughter.

This post today is to say Thanks to all of you out there who share, and by that, help the rest of us to have better days because of you. I am grateful.

As I journey through my days awaiting the return of my Marine from Afghanistan, caring for my mom and helping my dad as we watch her fading in her 15 year battle with cancer, watching and anticipating how God will unfold and reveal His best for my husband's continued journey in his career after unemployment days, seeing my treasures here at home grow and stretch their wings...I am sure my posts will continue to change, adapt, and most days ....overcome.

This little place in the big vast blogosphere is my little mark, my small voice typed into an online personal "e-journal". - A scrapbook of sorts with pictures and photos, and sayings.

I am glad I jumped in. It has definitely been a good part of my journey in this new season of life.

Hugs and Love to all of my bloggy sisters. You are definitely counted as treasures
in this lifetime. Thank you for the smiles and encouragement you dole out. God's best blessings to you...

Thanks for praying....God bless, and Semper Fi!
