It's Time....

woah!... got a call last night....NEWS....

New Jersey trip is CANCELLED....flight plans were changed...The Iowa man is flying in this afternoon....NOT late Tuesday night...

That gives me over 3 extra days with my BFF and that much more time to prepare for the

So to any who pop in here to see what's going on...and you see NO posts... please know it's because I am taking a

There is A MEGA LOT still to be done, and as a Marine Mom, I can absolutely envision a Drill Sargeant in front of these troops on Woodberry, shouting and charging us up....

In Military talk...excuse my French and unlady like language,...in THEIR world...it is literally time to

That means no more messing around...It's now...or never...

Just so you know where I am ...and what we are DOING...

I appreciate prayers...it's hard for a family...for a marriage...to be separated, and then everytime they get a tiny window of time to be united...it's simply... work hard - work fast - but it is necessary...to get back to "full-time together"

The lists are being made...Got those pencils sharpened ready to cross off...

At the end of each day, I am hoping we will feel accomplished, even if exhausted, and by Thursday - when meeting with realtors ....have this in front of us...(as much as is possible)

We will be praying here too...every morning and night, and remembering that God is in control, and that we only need to tap into that source of strength I mentioned this week...

"I can do ALL things through CHRIST...who strengthens me." Phillipians 4:13

"FOR WITH GOD...NOTHING SHALL BE IMPOSSIBLE..." Luke 1:37

I will be thinking of my bloggy sisters and what is going on with you and remembering to pray for your requests!!! Hugs to ALL!!!

Cleaning out, Project Closure, Rearranging, and Love for Vintage

E-Journal....Dear Diary... (photo entry ~ changes)

Every day that passes in this current season involves change, it seems...by necessity and sometimes by inspiration...

In preparing for a move, and a long distance one at that...it kicks me in the rear to get long dormant stuff.....DONE....or let it go....choices...

As I have painted one room after the other, rearranged furniture, moved stuff from one location to another, (including to the Garage or the Street Curb!)..., I find that in the serious business of preparing for a house sale, this girl can NOT let go of the light-hearted and whimsical side of fluffing a little...it literally helps me to stay sane...if anybody out there reading this today can relate,....thank you. I have sold things on Craig's List and found a few things to replace and exchange..

When I finished the Guest Room, I stated "The Door is Closed, I AM FINISHED HERE." What a hoot, evidently. My daughter rolled her eyes and said "Oh yeah...sure mom." sigh...they know me TOO well. So glad my family loves me.

Before
The QUEEN size contemporary wicker headboard (freebie from a gal in Rescue) was matched to a FULL size mattress set. I ended up selling it on Craig's, when I found this vintage and awesome Full-size true brass headboard with glass knobs at Habitat... (it matches the glass knobs on the old re-done dresser)

The little brass/glass lamp was on my den mantle, and it was a perfect match- so it got relocated to here.

The wrought iron decor on the wall got changed out to a pretty and large wall clock.

The wicker bedside table was changed out to this vintage child's roll-top desk. This piece was my dad's when he was a little boy. When the grandparents moved from the old farmhouse, I got it! My kids then in turn, sat and colored and drew at this little desk. After we moved here, and Kam outgrew it, it got placed in his closet and there it sat...and sat....
When redoing his room and cleaning out, he wanted it GONE! It went to the garage, while I figured out what to do with it. One day Inspiration hit and I decided to use it as a bedside table. unique...I do love it. It is sentimental and means a lot to me...I have visions of future grands sitting at it coloring and drawing. :-)

Before

This settee didn't change, just got an addition that I can't believe I found at a Goodwill for only 1.99. It is a lovely yellow and blue toile throw. It matches the roll pillow on the bed...rah.

And this was simply a dormant Closet project. This old but beautifully carved dark wood foot stool (Goodwill) has remained in the walk-in since last summer...again on the back burner because of "life." Forced to clean out...I grabbed it late last night, took it out to the garage, sanded it, cleaned it, and painted it with coats of white and blue and sanded again. Perfectly sits here under the slanted Dormer roof of the room...with the cute doggie. *another little re-do inbetween the painting of walls....sanity saver...

When I look back on this portion of the journey, what will I remember??? What will be forgotten because of too much busy-ness and daily overload? I don't know, but I hope that the one prevailing thought will be that I did my best as much of the time as I could to walk the path "well"..to try...to keep on keeping on...to Hold what I had...to remember to live in the present and not Look to the past, or scan the horizon ahead trying to focus on what was not there yet...to not gaze so much at the window closing ...that I didn't focus on the door opening...

"Whenever we exit one place, we are ALWAYS crossing the threshold to enter another..." (unknown)

Closing this entry for today...Life is Hard - some days are harder than others, but with God... all things can be accomplished...our source for strength is unending...we just have to intentionally tap into it.

Remember this today...

"Tough times don't last...Tough people do!" (Robert Schuller)

God bless all who may stop by this blog post today. May you have a wonderful weekend with family and friends. Wishing special moments for you in the everyday routines of life.

God BLESS our military heroes...

Changes continue...

Well I haven't done a Met Monday in a very long time..so I think I'll just hook up there today to show the metamorphosis of a few items that got repurposed with new lives...

Join Susan over here if you would like to see some more transformations:

http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/

The paintbrush keeps swinging, and the roller keeps rolling over here in the Cottage on Woodberry...the paint clothes keep getting more and more spatters on them...the right arm must be....MUST BE.... getting more muscles built than the left arm.. oh my.

Whaddaya think? Is this possible????... hmmm...with my dawgs??..not so much....

One more room....and then the dining room ceiling...
I feel like the Little Golden Book series storybook, THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD.

I think I can , I think I can, I think I can, ....puff puff puff....

I can't wait til I'm on the downhill side saying:

I thought I could, I thought I could , I thought I could....

The master bedroom is finished. It was bittersweet, because it was the last room in the house that actually had some of the original stencilling I did when we first moved in almost 20 years ago, and I painted it with a trellis stencil. It was time to change it out quite a while back, but well...I just didn't. But now, it is all gone.

I painted the room in a "TurtleDove" pale grey shade, and mercy..you can walk in the room at different times in the day and it can look pale green (sage), or pale blue, and then sometimes the grey.. amazing what light can do to a wall color. But it is what it is.

To any visitors here today, this is a record for me of my master bedroom, before I move away and forget it...and also to give a photo update to my husband missing in action in Iowa, and who hasn't been here in a while...so it is kind of long...just warning...

In the below pic is our old headboard for the King bed. It was a traditional one. (this was actually the Craig's List photo. - it sold VERY fast.)

I had the privilege of meeting up with my dear Pediatric Nurse friend Anne, again. ( from when my kids were little). **She is the one who sold me this item last year, and I cleaned it up and sprayed it and repurposed it. (a wine jail is what she called it)

Here almost a year later, I found her again! She had listed a wrought iron garden arch. I had called about the one shown, and found out it was her. She said she had 6 of them and they all were rusty and needed a bit of work, but if I got all six she would make me a sweet deal!
We bargained and I said okay! After washing, scrubbing, and using an orbital sander with rust and metal flying everywhere!... (yes I wore a mask and goggles)and applying rust reformer paint, and then more colors of paint, I repurposed all six. Keep in mind that these are 80 inches tall, and took a lot of SANDING and SCRUBBING and SWEATING!!!

Bear with me visitors...

I know this is about my Master Bedroom change, but since only 3 of the Arches went into the bedroom - I figured I might as well journal about all six right here and now... Here is the first. This was my FIRST idea for the Arch....

It adds a nice detail between the two garage doors seen from the street curb... and gives a punch to the expanse of brick up top...

After I got all six, and they sat in the garage for quite a while til I could find time to work on them.... I came up with the other repurposing ideas...this was number 2.

This is the area to the right of the front porch where my beautiful purple hydrangea bush was dug up and killed in 18 degree weather this past winter when we had the pipe crack and it left a huge gap there in the bed. I simply moved a bench, and put two more of the painted arches behind it to make a little sitting area. (Now just need that load of mulch delivered- get ready boys!!!)

Okay ~ SEGWAY BACK ~...sorry!!!, what a chopped up post....Now to the master Bedroom...I was talking about the Headboard, wasn't I????

Here was my idea number 3 for the headboard. Now remember, I like unique and one-of-a-kind items, so this is different... and if you keep up with me you know how much I like wrought iron or metal things...

These were in the best shape of the six, (and that's not saying much...) but they got three coats of paint. rust reformer black, light blue, and then white..a little of each showing through...for a slightly weathered look.

The chandy lights have been in my closet for over a year. black metal hanging baskets for plants. (goodwill 1.99) I turned them upside down in the store and pictured a hanging light over the bed for reading...and then....they got stored away and forgotten... as all that happened in the last year began to unfold.

Finally got them painted and put together. Felt so good to have an idea come to closure...

These birdie (think feathering the nest once again.) garden hook hangers were painted white and used to hang the lights on.

Here are a few night shots if you like...

I love the shadows they cast...I know, I'm a very strange egg. Have pity on my husband...:-)

So that's covering the headboard wall. The wall color in the above photos is pretty much the true "turtledove grey" shade...

For my own memory record... WHAT did I do with Sarah, one of my favorite pictures??? **see? there's that old "trellis" stencil on the blue wall.

simply moved her to HERE...and moved the other pic to another wall...still moving twigs, even in preparation for going on the market... it just happens with this girl...

To the right side of the bed, (Kurt's side), is this.

It rests over Kurt's transformed bedside table which you can read about in the previous post...

To the left...my side of the bed...

Last July I did a particular post about every girl needing her "own little spot"...all her own...and showed how I had taken this wall and made it my computer niche...all mine...

now it looks like this...The two shutter doors..rah..another project OUT of the garage-mancave. finally! - a few things got turned and changed....

and I added this chandy that had been in my closet also (habitat for humanity restore)..now painted white and embellished with some crytals and sparkley birds.

The wall with Kurt's dresser and the closets remained the same except for the new paint!

My dresser wall had these arched decor on either side of the mirror which is what inspired me to do the arched headboard..

There is an entry door in one corner of our room, a larger walk-in closet door in another corner, and then the curtained door below is to my closet. I took that door OFF because there is just SO little wall room to place anything because of ALL the doors in that room, including the bathroom door...5 doors...I got tired of all the "door swing" room needed in every corner. *see that tall cream floor lamp? that's vintage! It came from my grandmother's old farmhouse.

So this pretty little dotted swiss ruffled shower curtain from Goodwill is now hiding my closet and works quite well, thank you..the door will be in the walk-in for the next family to put back on if they wish..

Well I need to shut this post down....Here is one more thing... when I am sitting here in my nook and working at my computer, guess who's "got my back"?...You got it!

And in closing, speaking of the honorable Marines...here is MINE!! right before he took off back to base Sunday evening....got a pic of him with his ever-loving, ever-faithful, devil dawg...Woobie! Love that hero to pieces...

For those of you who scrolled all the way down to here, you are something else!! For my dear and beloved hubby whom I love more than anything in the whole wide world, these are changes going on, and for my Marine, so glad you can still shoot across the highways and get here for the weekend while we still live here...Be safe... **{How do you like that hair cut Mama gave him??}

REMEMBER what this little sign reminds me every day beside my computer screen:

and yes hon...I am trying really hard to remember your words, "It's a marathon, not a sprint!"

Please remember to pray for all of our committed and brave military heroes far away from home, fighting and defending our security, our freedoms, and our pleasures of life here... God bless them! ...RAH.
