Changes continue...

Well I haven't done a Met Monday in a very long time..so I think I'll just hook up there today to show the metamorphosis of a few items that got repurposed with new lives...

Join Susan over here if you would like to see some more transformations:

http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/

The paintbrush keeps swinging, and the roller keeps rolling over here in the Cottage on Woodberry...the paint clothes keep getting more and more spatters on them...the right arm must be....MUST BE.... getting more muscles built than the left arm.. oh my.

Whaddaya think? Is this possible????... hmmm...with my dawgs??..not so much....

One more room....and then the dining room ceiling...
I feel like the Little Golden Book series storybook, THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD.

I think I can , I think I can, I think I can, ....puff puff puff....

I can't wait til I'm on the downhill side saying:

I thought I could, I thought I could , I thought I could....

The master bedroom is finished. It was bittersweet, because it was the last room in the house that actually had some of the original stencilling I did when we first moved in almost 20 years ago, and I painted it with a trellis stencil. It was time to change it out quite a while back, but well...I just didn't. But now, it is all gone.

I painted the room in a "TurtleDove" pale grey shade, and mercy..you can walk in the room at different times in the day and it can look pale green (sage), or pale blue, and then sometimes the grey.. amazing what light can do to a wall color. But it is what it is.

To any visitors here today, this is a record for me of my master bedroom, before I move away and forget it...and also to give a photo update to my husband missing in action in Iowa, and who hasn't been here in a while...so it is kind of long...just warning...

In the below pic is our old headboard for the King bed. It was a traditional one. (this was actually the Craig's List photo. - it sold VERY fast.)

I had the privilege of meeting up with my dear Pediatric Nurse friend Anne, again. ( from when my kids were little). **She is the one who sold me this item last year, and I cleaned it up and sprayed it and repurposed it. (a wine jail is what she called it)

Here almost a year later, I found her again! She had listed a wrought iron garden arch. I had called about the one shown, and found out it was her. She said she had 6 of them and they all were rusty and needed a bit of work, but if I got all six she would make me a sweet deal!
We bargained and I said okay! After washing, scrubbing, and using an orbital sander with rust and metal flying everywhere!... (yes I wore a mask and goggles)and applying rust reformer paint, and then more colors of paint, I repurposed all six. Keep in mind that these are 80 inches tall, and took a lot of SANDING and SCRUBBING and SWEATING!!!

Bear with me visitors...

I know this is about my Master Bedroom change, but since only 3 of the Arches went into the bedroom - I figured I might as well journal about all six right here and now... Here is the first. This was my FIRST idea for the Arch....

It adds a nice detail between the two garage doors seen from the street curb... and gives a punch to the expanse of brick up top...

After I got all six, and they sat in the garage for quite a while til I could find time to work on them.... I came up with the other repurposing ideas...this was number 2.

This is the area to the right of the front porch where my beautiful purple hydrangea bush was dug up and killed in 18 degree weather this past winter when we had the pipe crack and it left a huge gap there in the bed. I simply moved a bench, and put two more of the painted arches behind it to make a little sitting area. (Now just need that load of mulch delivered- get ready boys!!!)

Okay ~ SEGWAY BACK ~...sorry!!!, what a chopped up post....Now to the master Bedroom...I was talking about the Headboard, wasn't I????

Here was my idea number 3 for the headboard. Now remember, I like unique and one-of-a-kind items, so this is different... and if you keep up with me you know how much I like wrought iron or metal things...

These were in the best shape of the six, (and that's not saying much...) but they got three coats of paint. rust reformer black, light blue, and then white..a little of each showing through...for a slightly weathered look.

The chandy lights have been in my closet for over a year. black metal hanging baskets for plants. (goodwill 1.99) I turned them upside down in the store and pictured a hanging light over the bed for reading...and then....they got stored away and forgotten... as all that happened in the last year began to unfold.

Finally got them painted and put together. Felt so good to have an idea come to closure...

These birdie (think feathering the nest once again.) garden hook hangers were painted white and used to hang the lights on.

Here are a few night shots if you like...

I love the shadows they cast...I know, I'm a very strange egg. Have pity on my husband...:-)

So that's covering the headboard wall. The wall color in the above photos is pretty much the true "turtledove grey" shade...

For my own memory record... WHAT did I do with Sarah, one of my favorite pictures??? **see? there's that old "trellis" stencil on the blue wall.

simply moved her to HERE...and moved the other pic to another wall...still moving twigs, even in preparation for going on the market... it just happens with this girl...

To the right side of the bed, (Kurt's side), is this.

It rests over Kurt's transformed bedside table which you can read about in the previous post...

To the left...my side of the bed...

Last July I did a particular post about every girl needing her "own little spot"...all her own...and showed how I had taken this wall and made it my computer niche...all mine...

now it looks like this...The two shutter doors..rah..another project OUT of the garage-mancave. finally! - a few things got turned and changed....

and I added this chandy that had been in my closet also (habitat for humanity restore)..now painted white and embellished with some crytals and sparkley birds.

The wall with Kurt's dresser and the closets remained the same except for the new paint!

My dresser wall had these arched decor on either side of the mirror which is what inspired me to do the arched headboard..

There is an entry door in one corner of our room, a larger walk-in closet door in another corner, and then the curtained door below is to my closet. I took that door OFF because there is just SO little wall room to place anything because of ALL the doors in that room, including the bathroom door...5 doors...I got tired of all the "door swing" room needed in every corner. *see that tall cream floor lamp? that's vintage! It came from my grandmother's old farmhouse.

So this pretty little dotted swiss ruffled shower curtain from Goodwill is now hiding my closet and works quite well, thank you..the door will be in the walk-in for the next family to put back on if they wish..

Well I need to shut this post down....Here is one more thing... when I am sitting here in my nook and working at my computer, guess who's "got my back"?...You got it!

And in closing, speaking of the honorable Marines...here is MINE!! right before he took off back to base Sunday evening....got a pic of him with his ever-loving, ever-faithful, devil dawg...Woobie! Love that hero to pieces...

For those of you who scrolled all the way down to here, you are something else!! For my dear and beloved hubby whom I love more than anything in the whole wide world, these are changes going on, and for my Marine, so glad you can still shoot across the highways and get here for the weekend while we still live here...Be safe... **{How do you like that hair cut Mama gave him??}

REMEMBER what this little sign reminds me every day beside my computer screen:

and yes hon...I am trying really hard to remember your words, "It's a marathon, not a sprint!"

Please remember to pray for all of our committed and brave military heroes far away from home, fighting and defending our security, our freedoms, and our pleasures of life here... God bless them! ...RAH.
