Craig's List and Outstanding Sons....

Well, hard to believe ...but it's Friday come around again! Wow the weeks fly, but I don't mind so much. It means Justin's time in the land far, far away is also flying and that is what I want. He's 8.5 hours ahead of us, and I am constantly calculating that when I think of him and what he may be doing...

This is absolutely something that I would have included in my "Favorite Thrift Places to Shop" post when it came time to highlight Craig's List ads.

I have been doing a post every so often about my favorites.

Back around the third week of May I saw an ad that simply said "Kincaid Dining Room Hutch for free. (Huntersville)" I clicked on it out of pure curiosity. The picture was of a gorgeous China Cabinet. I told myself the ad was a typo - error- wrong- mistake.... No way was that beautiful piece of furniture (which I surely would have loved to get) ....FREE!

I called. She said,


I said, "I WANT IT!"

The catch???? Mega monstrous HEAVY. and she warned me... BRING SOME MUSCLE with you. Third story apartment!!! Do you still want it?



Oh my GOSH! The girl was not kidding. Justin is away...far away... Kurt was in Kansas City at the time.

That left Jonny and Kameron.


They told me I was trying to kill them both in one shot.

I felt very, very bad.


Alas..... we got it home in one piece, unbroken, and no hospital visits for my wonderful , outstanding, longsuffering, strong sons.

**That piece will never leave GROUND level again.**

I am extremely thankful for this FREEBIE. Love it. Not too formal, and has sparkley jeweled knobs, etched glass, and a Country French feel that goes with the Dining Room.
**AND STORAGE** RAH!

So Craig's List continues to be one of my TOP FAVORITES.

White Wednesdays

Once again...it's Wednesday. And Kathleen is faithfully always there, continuing her White Wednesday affair for all to come and join, visit, or just hang out a while.

Just for FUN for starters on this White Wednesday post...


I don't have a lot photographed today for Whites. But here is a sweet birdcage I got last year. It was chippy green and bent up a little bit. (Goodwill)
And well, you guessed it...Now it is white.
Another "save" for my screened porch I dream of. LOVED the heart shape and there is a little shelf across the middle for displaying something (one day.)

For today, here she poses, on the front porch steps, with a cheerful little pot of begonias and dusty miller. My White Wednesday party pic. :-)

Back at the end of March, I took the pictures below. I was going back and forth to the hospital when my mom was in for her radiation, and I happened across a new tiny "hole-in-the-wall" thrift shop. I checked it out the next time I drove by and discovered a double hanging mini- chandelier. It was brass, and had most of it's crystals piled beside it on the shelf, mangled and disconnected. The electrical wiring looked questionable.

I took a pic of the wires (w/my phone) and sent it to Da Man at work and asked him if it looked like something he could work with. He replied back - "yes, looks fine."

And so for 10 bucks I nabbed it and brought it home with a semi-vision in my head. Though this was made to hang from the ceiling, I was thinking "attached to the wall" above my bathroom sink. I knew it could be done...just needed some "adapting and overcoming" as the Marines do!!!!




Well, I spray painted the brass parts Heirloom White. - step one accomplished.


Soaked and cleaned all the usuable crytal parts. - step two accomplished.


Found and ordered (from Ebay) some blue crystals to adorn the inside of the chandeliers.

They then sat on the project table in the family room for WEEKS! Finally when Kat was on a week of vacation at the end of April, she came in with some pliers, sat down and started working on it. I joined her! She is so motivating...and a hard worker. **She doesn't like unfinished projects and disorganization.




After that, the "re-crystalled" fixtures sat a little while longer til Kurt had time to cut me some really sturdy candlestick socket covers (pvc). I needed 6 and there were only 3. (they were old and cracked)

Finally the time came to hang them, and I got my cord covers sewn this past week at mom's on her nice Bernina machine. The fabric was a remnant of nice Waverly scroll pattern that I had spied at my favorite thrift for .50 ....

So Here is my thrifty ten dollar lighting makeover for our master bath. A little elbow grease, spray paint, added sparkle, and daughter assistance, and honey-do help and Voila!! It's hard to get a good pic in a bathroom that does not have natural light from a window...Sorry.






Love the vintage look and sparkley effect. My kids say I am like a Magpie bird that likes to collect shiny little objects and sparkley trash from the ground to hoard in its nest or hideaway...YIKES...is that how they picture me and what they will remember most about me????? {:-o sigh....

Last month I did a post and told of my favorite haunts or places I love to shop and find downright unbelievable prices on things for our family or home. I thought I would do an individual post on each of those places highlighting them and showing some examples of great things that can be found here in Charlotte and the surrounding areas.




So, today I am highlighting with photos of what I have found from many visits over time to what has become one of my MOST favorite tiny thrift shops to drop in and check out. ***they also get fresh baked, wrapped leftover goodies turned in from Starbucks and Panera and Pizza Hut, which I grab up for my hungry crew. (.50 donation jar for these)

If any of you walked into my home, just about everything you see would be thrifted from somewhere. Everything above ranged from .25 up to 5.00.
Nothing Over that amount! Works for my budget from my earnings, so that I do not have to use my hubby's hard earned earnings needed for our family bills and needs.
These are just samples of what you can find on any given day. **( I just got five summer shirts for $10.00 this past week, and this past Fall I found Kurt an awesome brown leather Bomber Jacket for $15.00. He loves it.)
You can tell why this little local shop is one of my favorites, yes????? I will always get excited about "talking THRIFT!" :-)

Have you found some little places to go treasure hunting, walking in with rainy day change and walking out with a deal and a smile????

I have arrived to the point now that I rarely ever shop Retail anymore....
